-Setting Up:

  • One team lines up behind the end line of a basketball court--if this line is too close to the wall to have players come to a stop safely, then move the line further from the wall.

  • Place the beanbags (gold) behind the line at the other end.

  • The other team divides their players with half on one side of the basketball court and half on the other side--about half of these players have foam balls.

-Instructions:

  • On the signal to begin, the leader begins the time to determine how quickly the one team can retrieve all the gold pieces.

  • Players run from one end of the basketball court to the other to pick up a piece of gold and run back with it. Players are safe at either ends.

  • If a player gets hit by a ball they must return to the start--if they are holding a piece of gold they must return it before going back to the start.

  • When all the gold has been recovered stop the time and switch team roles.

-Questions & Notes:

  • Variations:

  • Define different locomotor requirements when crossing (hop, jump...)

  • Players dribble a basketball when they are crossing.

  • Questions for Understanding:

  • What tactics are most useful for successfully crossing the court?

  • What tactics are most useful for throwing players out when they are crossing?

  • How does it feel to succeed at your tasks?
