-Equipment Link:

-Setting Up:

  • Players stand in a circle 10 paces apart (the closer the distance the easier it is, the further apart the distance is the more challenging it is), one player holds a football

  • At the signal to start the player with the ball passes the ball to someone not immediately beside her.

  • The person receiving the football has a half-second to hold the ball and pass it to another person not immediately beside him.

  • Continue until someone drops the ball, holds onto it for more than a two-seconds, or passes the ball to someone immediately either side of the passer.

  • Measure the time till the infraction occurred.

  • Repeat the game and try to better the previous best time.

-Questions & Notes:

  • Variations:

    • Name Calling Hot Football: When players catch the ball they call out their name. This is a good way for players to know each other’s names at the beginning of the season.

    • Double Name Calling Hot Football: When players catch the ball they call out their name and when they pass it they call out the name of the player the ball is thrown to.

    • Hot Footballs: Played the same as Hot Football but 2 or more balls are used at the same time. This game can also be played as with Name Calling or Double Name Calling.

    • Rotating Hot Football: Played the same as Hot Football except that everyone walks around in a circle while they play the game. Rotating can also be applied to the other variations.

    • Multi-sport Hot Ball/Puck: Hot Football, and the variations, can also be played using other sports equipment and passes.
