  • Manipulative Retain

    • Dribble

-Equipment List:

  • 1 scooter per player

  • 1 jersey or pinnie per player (2 different colors to distinguish the 2 teams)

  • 2 to 3 foam soccer balls per game

  • 2 floor hockey goals

-Equipment Link:

-Setting Up:

  • Place a goal at either end of a gymnasium and tape (or use existing lines) a 9 yard (meter) penalty box in front of the goal (the goalie can touch the ball with his hands inside this box).

  • Select the players for the 2 teams.

  • Distribute the pinnies to distinguish the 2 teams.

  • Explain the rules.

  • Have the teams position 3-5 players and a goalie to start on the floor on their own half of center.

-Instructions:

  • Explain to the players that this game is similar to indoor soccer. The most significant modifications are: each player is seated on a scooter, the ball may touch people’s hands but they cannot use their hands to propel the ball, and more players can compete on the floor at any given time.

  • Rules

    • All walls and bleachers are in bounds except for the 2 corners on either end of bleachers where the substitutes are--these areas will be used for team “dug-outs.” When the ball is kicked into these team areas, the other team will get possession. They will put the ball in play by placing it in the playing area and kicking it in play. The player putting the ball back into play must be given sufficient room. Substitutions can be made on the fly or after any whistle. Any rough play from a player will result in a 2-minute penalty during which time the team plays short-handed.

    • If the ball deflects off the goalie, the ball is still in play even if it hits the wall. The goalie cannot hold the ball with his hands while out of his crease. Hand balls will be called. When these calls are made, the opposing team automatically gains possession and game continues. Goalies must throw the ball, and not kick it, once they have picked it up.
