-Setting Up:

  • Put out 8 pylons (20 yards (meters) apart) to represent a circle that the competitors must go around. Mark a start/finish line.

  • Divide the participants into teams of 3 players per team. Have the teams determine who will be the dog (player pulling the toboggan) and who will be the 2 people sitting on the toboggan.

  • Have 3 to 5 teams line up at the start/finish line.

-Instructions:

  • Explain the game to the participants.

  • At the signal to start the “dogs” pull their sled around the course as quickly as possible—the first team to cross the finish line with both people on the sled is the winner.

-Questions & Notes:

  • Safety Considerations

    • If a sled overturns the dog must stop pulling and participants get back on the toboggan while trying to avoid getting hit by other dogs or sleds.

  • Variations

    • Blind Dog Sled

      • A fun variation of the above game but requries 1 more player.

      • The dog is blindfolded and led (without touching) around the course by a seeing-eye player.

    • Inner Tube Races

      • This race can be done on the same course and involves 1 player pushing an inner tube with a player on it around an obstacle course.
