-Setting Up:

  • Stand students in a large circle facing the middle and holding hands with the player beside them, to be a wheel.

  • One player should have their back against a wall.

  • The last player has her back to the wall then moves away from the wall as the circle/wheel turns.

  • The objective for the group is to successfully roll around the entire room one time.

-Instructions:

  • Starting against the wall, the wheel rolls around the gym.

  • The challenge is to see if the group can maintain a circle and always have one point of contact against a wall as they turn around the walls of the entire gym.

-Questions & Notes:

  • Safety Considerations

    • Remind students that this is not a race. Roll the wheel slowly or player may trip and fall.

  • Teaching Tips

    • Emphasize going slowly and maintaining the round shape of a wheel.

    • To make things more interesting, have several wheels going in different directions so that they need to roll around the different wheels as well.

    • You could have some fun with this game by going around the outside of a small building and treating the flower beds as walls, the circle rotating against the edge of the flower beds so that plants are not destroyed.
