Eclipse (or other paddle) Ball

To challenge another team's ability to return a ball.

-Fundamental Movement Skills:

  • Manipulative Send

    • Strike

-Equipment List:

  • One Eclipse racquet (or other paddle) per player, and one net and ball per game.

-Setting Up:

  • Using a volleyball court, place a net across the centre of the court, and place 6-9 players on each side of the court--each player holding a racquet/paddle.

-Instructions:

  • One team is given the ball and serves the ball underhand across the net.

  • The receiving team can let the ball bounce between hits and needs to hit it back over the net with a maximum of three hits per side.

  • Whoever wins the rally scores a point and receives the right to serve.

-Questions & Notes:

  • Variations: 

  • It could also be done over a volleyball net.

  • When players become more proficient remove the one-bounce rule.

  • What is most effective for offense/defense?
