RPS for a Balanced Meal

-Objective:

Be the first player to get a balanced meal—1 balanced meal = 1 FoodGroup Flag from each food group (based on Canada's 2019 Food Guide of 2 Fruits and Vegetables, 1 grain, and one protein).

-Fundamental Movement Skills:

  • Locomotor

    • Run​

-Equipment List:

  • One complete set of HealthyFood Spots—Use only Fruit, Vegetables, Grain, and Protein

-Setting Up:

  • Place all of the HealthyFood Spots in the centre of the playing area.

  • Establish a perimeter around the playing area, and players stand outside this perimeter.

-Instructions:

  • On the leader’s signal to begin, players pair up with players and play a game of Rock, Paper, Scissors (Rock (fist) smashes Scissors (two fingers in scissors shape), Scissors cuts Paper (flat hand), and Paper covers Rock).

  • The player that wins then runs to the middle of the playing area and retrieves one HealthyFood Spot.

  • The player that did not win plays someone else outside the perimeter.

  • The player that returns with a HealthyFood Spot plays anyone outside the perimeter.

  • Continue till one player has a balanced meal—1 FoodGroup Flag from all 4 food groups.

Variation

  • Do this game as a relay with teams of 3 players in each team. Two teams of 3 players each stand beside each other outside the perimeter of the playing area.

  • The first players from each team compete at RPS with each other.

  • The winning players retrieve a HealthyFood Spot, the ones who did not win go to the back of their team’s line.

  • The next two players compete at RPS…. Till one team has all 4 different HealthyFood Spots.
