-Setting Up:

  • Define a playing area–something like a badminton court or half a volleyball court.

  • Both teams are on the court, one of the teams is given a ball

-Instructions:

  • By throwing the ball--handing the ball to a teammate is not permitted--to a teammate players attempt to pass the ball to their teammates.

  • Every 10 consecutive passes counts for 1 point.

  • Teams try to score 5 points to win a game.

  • The defending team tries to intercept the passes.

  • If the defending team intercepts a pass, or a pass goes out-of-bounds, the defending team gets the ball and attempts to make 10 consecutive passes.

  • The player who made the last bad pass takes a break by sitting on the floor until their team gets the ball again–this gives a slight advantage to the offensive team.

-Questions & Notes:

  • Safety considerations:

    • Players should keep heads up to avoid crashing into each other.

    • No body contact is permitted.

  • Instructional tips:

    • Players need to find open spaces so their teammates can pass them the ball.

  • Variations:

    • Specific-pass Take-a-break Keep-away: The same as Take-a-break Keep-away but players may only use a specific type of pass, for example: bounce pass or chest pass.

    • Multi-sport Take-a-break Keep-away: The same as Take-a-break Keep-away but using different sport passes and balls.

  •  As a cool-down:

    •  Works well as a cool-down as long as the playing area is not too large.
