Grid Pass

-Equipment Link:

-Setting Up:

  • Define a square grid with sides approximately 4-6 paces long.

  • Three players stand on a corner of the grid, and 1 player stands in the middle.

-Instructions:

  • One player [B] begins with the ball in one of the grid corners.

  • The other 2 players [P1 & P2] are positioned at adjacent corners–leaving one corner open.

  • The player with the ball can only pass it to 1 of the 2 adjacent corners (cannot pass the ball across the grid).

  • Once the pass has been made the other player moves to the open corner to give the receiver 2 corners to pass the ball to.

  • Play continues until a bad pass is made or the ball is intercepted, at which time the player who made the errant pass goes into the middle and is replaced by the middle player [MP].

-Questions & Notes:

  • Instructional tips:

    • Players should use deception and not telegraph whom they intend to pass the ball to.

    • Players without the ball should always ensure the possibility of 2 receivers.

  • Variation:

    • Different Sport Grid Pass: Grid Pass can also be done with basketball, lacrosse, or even overhead or underhand passes in volleyball.
