-Setting Up:

  • Select the players for the 4 teams.

  • Distribute the pinnies to distinguish the 4 teams.

  • Explain the rules.

  • Have the teams select a goalie.

  • Designate a goal-counter for each goal.

  • Everyone gets on the floor (does not matter where).

-Instructions:

  • Explain that the objective of this game is to score as many goals as possible on the other goals; team with the fewest goals scored against them is the winner.

  • The game is begun with the official throwing the 4 balls out into the gym.

  • Players may not use their hands or arms to contact the ball; except for 1 goalie per team who may do so within 2 yards (meters) of the goal.

-Questions & Notes:

  • Safety Considerations

    • Need to use foam or bladder balls so that players do not get hurt if they are inadvertently hit with a ball.

  • Variation

    • Toss out 40 tennis balls and balls that go in the goal stay there till they are all gone. Then the team with the lowest number of balls in their goal is the winner.

  • Teaching Tips

    • If the referee calls out the scores as they happen, teams will gang up on the teams with the lowest goals against, and the eventual outcome is likely to be a very close score.

    • For younger children you may wish to enlarge the goal size, since they are less accurate in their shots.
