-Equipment Link:
-Setting Up:
-
If using a soft ball and bat place a batting spot down, then 15 paces place two pylons about five paces apart.
-
The batter stands at the batting spot holding a bat and ball.
-
One fielder stands between and in front of the pylons.
-
The other fielder stands 10-15 paces behind the first fielder.
-Instructions:
-
The batter hits a ball and strikes and bases count as follows:
-
Three consecutive strikes and the batter is out:
-
Foul ball is a strike and is when the ball is outside the pylons.
-
A strike is also called when the ball bounces at least once before the first fielder and is caught by the first fielder.
-
-
Any ball caught without bouncing on the ground by either fielder is out.
-
A single = A ball that bounces before the first fielder and is stopped by the second fielder.
-
A double = A ball that bounces before the second fielder (goes in the air past the first fielder) and is then caught by the second fielder.
-
A triple = A ball that bounces before the second fielder (goes in the air past the first fielder) and then goes by the second fielder.
-
A home run = A ball that goes over the head of the second fielder.
-
-
Runners are imaginery and move up only one base ahead of the hitter. For example,
-
If the batter scores a single there is an imaginery runner on first.
-
If the batter then scores a double there is an imaginary runner on second and third.
-
If the batter then scores a single there is an imaginary runner on first, second, and third.
-
If the batter then scores a double there is an imaginary runner on second and third and two runs are in.
-
-
When a batter goes out, the first fielder becomes the batter, the out fielder becomes the infielder, and the batter becomes the outfielder.
-Questions & Notes:
Variations:
For stronger players and more baseball like equipment move the pylons much further back.
For weaker players and using paddles and foam balls move the pylons much further forward. Could also use tees for hitting off.
Questions for understanding:
How does one choose where to hit and how many bases the hitter wants to achieve?
Defensively what are tactics that will help prevent the hitter from getting on base?
