-Setting Up:

  • Set up bases like regular baseball.

  • Assign teams of about 6 players per team--if more players have several players run as a unit at a time with the hitter.

  • One team is up and on team is in the field.

-Instructions:

  • A batter hits the ball (either from a pitcher or by self-toss).

  • The batter then runs as many bases as possible before a player on the pitcher's mound receives the ball--if the runner is on a base the runner is safe, if the runner is not on a base then the runner is out.

  • Multiple runners can be on a base.

  • When there are no more batters (or if everyone has hit) then switch sides.

-Questions & Notes:

  • Variation:

  • With lighter balls this can easily be played in a half-gym (walls are in play)--no outs for fly balls.

  • Questions for Understanding:

  • What are the best places for a batter to hit the ball?

  • How can teams best be in a defensive position and most quickly get the ball to a player on a pitching mound?

  • Why is it exciting when playes are safe or score a run?
